Volunteer Spotlight

Sherri and Leo!

What brought you to volunteer for the Mendo Food Network?

  • Leo works right next door at the Sherwood Valley Food Program, and generously decided to use his lunch break to help us out with our food pop-up! We're lucky to have such helpful neighbors!
  • Sherri enjoys volunteering as a way to be a part of her community, and especially likes packing produce bags so she can take any spoiled produce home to her 5 Kune Kune pigs on her farm, who are always hungry!

Tell us a bit about yourself?

  • Leo has been a part of our community for a whopping 30 years. He comes to us from the Bay area, along with his 3 kids. He shared that he loves this community because he knows his kids are safe, and he doesn't have to worry about them so much.
  • Sherri retired in 2018, and moved to the Willits area to realize her farming dream. She now lives on a large property, taking care of chickens, pigs, dogs, and more. Her passion is contagious, and she's living the dream!

What is your favorite food?

  • Leo's favorite food is Chicken Alfredo, which he used to serve at his restaurant prior to COVID, and continues to cook at home regularly. YUM.
  • Sherri shared that she loves everything, but if she had to choose, it would have to be Cap'n Crunch! Can't blame her.

A huge thank you to Leo and Sherri, who dedicated their time to us on June 20th, packing produce bags for our food pop-up. Work like this doesn't happen without people like them, and we're so grateful for their generosity. Until next time!

Other Ways To Support Us

Not able to volunteer? No problem, you can still help!

If you're unable to support Mendo Food Network with volunteer hours or monetary donations, you can still help by spreading the word about our mission, hosting a food drive, or advocating for local food security initiatives. Every effort, no matter how small, makes a significant difference in our fight against hunger. Thank you for your time, energy and effort!
